Fb or blog?

This post is intended to be an informative piece on the differences between facebook and blogs.

Facebook, "fb", is a social networking tool for meeting new peop le, keeping in contact with old friends and just generally learning a lot of information about people you would normally never talk to and some if not most of that information you'd be better off not knowing or could have lived your life just fine with out knowing. At the height my facebookism I had well over 200 "friends" and really did not care what more than half of them had to say.I'm now down to around 25 friends and only a few of the close to 200 that I unfriended requested the friend back. On fb you are allowed to write whatever you wish and with no moderation.
If you are 'friends' with a person you see whatever they write unless you 'hide' them. They can write horribly offensive things or very slanderous comments etc. etc. and the offended or slandered has one option and that is to 'unfriend' them. It is more or less puton your screen in your face to read when you open facebook. I can be a useful tool to keep in contact with distant friends (which is my primary use) and it can also just be a place to B and moan about your 'pathetic life'.

IMO fb is for mindless status updates about what you are doing and where you are or other potentially positive things in your life. Or playing mindless games such as farmville or childish fantasy games with complete strangers who are now your best buds. It is not for complaining about how bad of a day you had or how unfair life is or how nothing goes your way or the fact that you just can't get hooked up with anyone at the bar on Friday night or how much this sucks or that sucks about your life or how no one has it worse than you. blah blah blah. Guess what, NO ONE CARES !!! No really, they don't! They comment, they say awwwww or whatever but they don't care. Everyone would much rather hear positive things or just mindless neutral stuff. When I read those kinds of updates I would think "Good Lord he/she is feeling sorry for themself again, sigh".

Now a blog (which you are reading now) on the other hand is a completely different story. A blog is a story or writing about whatever in the world you choose to write about (as you can see). From how much you hate life, to how sucky your job is to how great your new haircut is. People will read no matter how positive or negative it is and the more often you write the more they will tune in. A blog is a different venue and it allows you opportunity to say whatever you want and because it is a different setting like a blog, people will read it with a different understanding than on fb. If those few that always post how much life sucks and how they always get the short end of the stick were to convert those thoughts into blog posts, people would read. I know I would, it would be highly entertaining. But not on facebook. Those same thoughts on facebook just come across as "Ok, i'm here another day to complain and moan about my life again, nothing new" and that just gets old fast.

So, in conclusion, seriously if you are a negative person on facebook, get a blog, you'd be surprised how many people would check it out each time you write. Keep it fresh, Keep it real whether positive or negative, does not matter, and they will read. With over 15,000 hits I'm both positive and negative.
